Orange is launching the Entrepreneur Club, a new space for information in French and English devoted to entrepreneurs in Africa and the Middle East.
The website is a source of information for entrepreneurs that puts them in touch with a variety of instruments from Orange that support entrepreneurship. The Entrepreneur Club also provides practical information and tools for company creation. Orange supports start-ups in Africa and the Middle East
The Bobs 2016: Deutsche Welle starts contest on online activism
For the 12th time, Deutsche Welle issues the call for entries to its online contest "The Bobs – Best of Online Activism." The awards honor exemplary efforts to promote online freedom of expression and civil society. DW is also awarding the Freedom of Speech Award.
Nigerian tech entrepreneur Sim Shagaya has announced he is stepping down as the CEO of Konga, which is one of Africa’s leading ecommerce companies.
In an email sent to the company’s staff, Shagaya said he is stepping down to assume the role of the chairman of the company’s board of directors. Former Konga COO Shola Adekoya has been appointed acting CEO, who will be in charge until in interim until the board has made a new appointment.
Global talent accelerator Andela has opened applications for its sixth Kenyan cohort, looking for talented, ambitious individuals with an interest in technology and a desire to become a world-class developer.
Launched in Nigeria in September 2014, Andela identifies talented young Africans and trains them to become top developers for global firms. With an only one per cent acceptance rate, Andela claims to be the most selective tech training programme on the African continent.
Late last year, leading social communication platform, WeChat launched a ZAR50million fund to be used for investment in promising mobile startups in South Africa.
At the moment, applications for the Summer 2016 cycle of fund are being accepted.
The fund is open to startups with a developed and tested MVP (minimal viable product), that can demonstrate strong growth/traction in the South African market and has the ability and appetite to expand into other markets on the WeChat platform.
