The countries below contain a historic archive of information on the state of the internet that is now three years old. For some countries, the information has remained largely the same whereas for others considerable change has occurred. However it can still be used to identify organisations involved in developing the internet and to understand the historic development of the Internet in Africa. AITEC EXPANDS ITS EVENTS PORTFOLIO

AITEC, one of Africa’s leading organiser of IT exhibitions and conferences has developed a number of strategic partnerships to develop a range of new events in 2001.

It has been appointed as the local partner in Africa for the Commonwealth Business Council which is holding a major international conference on eBusiness at the Sandton Sun over 18-20 June. AITEC is responsible for promoting the event throughout Africa, as well as mounting a technology showcase of ebusiness solutions alongside the conference.

Also in June, AITEC is running the West African Communications and Broadcasting Conference in Lagos in association with Exhibition Management Services of South Africa as part of their W.Afri.Tel event. In addition, AITEC is holding a major IT and communications exhibition in Addis Ababa in June to coincide with the "Ethiopia in the Information Age" conference being held by the British Council at the Economic Commission for Africa.

In November AITEC is partnering with the Institute of Telecom Resellers to hold their inaugural African conference and exhibition in Pretoria during the ITU’s African Telecom event. The ITRE Africa event will provide a meeting place for the continent’s growing telecommunications industry, including suppliers and resellers.

According to Sean Moroney, Group Chairman, "AITEC is expanding its portfolio of events in response to the dramatic expansion of the African IT and telecommunications markets. By working with other organisations we are able to offer our clients a wide range of marketing platforms to target their priority markets."

For further details of AITEC’s wide range of events in 2001, see its web site: www.aitecafrica.com
