The countries below contain a historic archive of information on the state of the internet that is now three years old. For some countries, the information has remained largely the same whereas for others considerable change has occurred. However it can still be used to identify organisations involved in developing the internet and to understand the historic development of the Internet in Africa. NEW AFRICAN CONSERVATION PORTAL

This project is a non-profit (in fact loss-making venture) which was only launched in June 2000 but, even in such a short time, it has already grown enormously. It grew out of its founder’s passion for Africa and its flora and fauna. Terry Harnwell grew up and lived for 32 years in South Africa and is intending to return to Africa on a permanent basis as soon as possible.

A site (http://www.africanconservation.com) aims to:

1.To bring together all African conservation groups and NGOs in one place on the internet, to exchange information and ideas.

2.To provide aid and assistance to all the smaller African conservation groups - publicity, wider recognition, free websites (and website hosting) where necessary, and eventually financial aid - some of whom don’t even have electricity, let alone internet access.

3.To build up a Research resource on the internet. It has not yet had the time/finances to launch this section but the aim is to start collecting research material (research on African flora and fauna) which is currently not being published, or is being published but only accessible by few people and publish it in one place.

4.To provide a forum where conservation groups and conservation-minded individuals can exchange notes and information.

5.To provide a central area where NGOs and conservation groups can post their Press Releases and Articles.
