- For around ten years, TV5Monde has chosen to be present at the Cannes Festival in the southern film pavilion, renamed the World Film Pavilion two years ago.
This presence is the representation of the permanent commitment of the French language channel to southern cinema, especially that from Africa. Throughout the year, TV5Monde celebrates African cinema on all of its nine signals. With the CIRTEF competition, two feature films are shown on the first and last Sunday of each month on the AFRICA signal and, in the rest of the world, around fifteen African films are offered to arouse the curiosity of viewers each year. The pre-purchasing policy conducted by the channel enables five directors to be supported each year.
This is how Souleymane Cissé with “Min Ye” (“Tell Me Who You Are”) in 2009 and Mahamat-Saleh Haroun with “A Screaming Man” in 2010, were present at Cannes with the support of TV5MONDE. “A Screaming Man” was awarded the Special Jury Prize at Cannes in 2010 and the Silver Stallion at Fespaco 2011. TV5MONDE AFRIQUE is also the channel for African series, acting as a genuine breeding ground for African directors. Since 2006, the talent of directors coming from countries such as Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Gabon, Mali and Niger has led to popular scheduling that is greatly appreciated by the channel’s viewers.

- On Friday 13 mai 2011 at the Cannes Film Festival, ‘l’institut français’ announced the launch of ‘IFcinéma’, a new secure film download platform helping the institute disseminate its audiovisual catalogue to its many partners across the world including Africa. A representative from ‘l’institut français’ confirmed to Balancing Act that the platform, maintained by ‘Universciné’ could cut costs and will save delivery time. Source: l’institut français.

- The management and staff of Obonu FM, a branch of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) based in Tema, has launched its 10 years anniversary celebration with a call on staff of the station to acknowledge the fact that competition within the Ghanaian media landscape by commercial private operators was very high, and therefore improve upon their output.
