TV5Monde and the French Institute strengthen their Cinema relationships

On July 21, 2011, TV5Monde and the French Institute (“l’Institut Français” in French) increased their cooperation for better dissemination of Culture and of the French language in the world.

The agreement aims to formalize collaborations that already exist and those to be developed between TV5Monde and the French Institute. It was signed in Marseille by Marie-Christine Saragosse, General Director of TV5Monde and Xavier Darcos, President of the French Institute in the presence of Pierre Sellal, Secretary, Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs. The signing takes place under the "Workshops of the French Institute" uniting the French cultural network in the world. Both organizations want to strengthen their relations in terms of editorial coverage, support of production and visibility exchange.

One of the five key areas includes support for the Cinema industry. Both entities will join forces to boost support to ‘World Cinema’ including the implementation of the Cinemas of the World Pavilion in Cannes, along with France 24 and RFI.

TV5Monde and the French Institute will be able to pool - especially in the field of subtitling - their video on demand platforms, managed by UniversCiné. In addition, TV5Monde and the French Institute plan to develop other VOD platforms aimed at users of French media libraries abroad which will aggregate electronic books ("eBooks"), videos, podcasts, educational resources related to culture and the French language.

The French Institute maintains a catalogue of films co-produced under the fund "images of France" and "documentary without borders"; some films will be available for free via TV5Monde services.
