- Public broadcasters in Uganda have been urged to emphasise professionalism, invest in improved technology and strengthen regional partnerships to compete with the private Sector.
Information Minister Kirunda Kivejinja made the call during the opening of the first annual general meeting of East African Public Broadcasters' Association in Kampala yesterday.
According to Mr. Amos Tindyebwa, the Chief Executive Officer of Trade and Business Services Center, public broadcasters are faced with stiff competition by the private broadcasters due to the liberalised economy.
- National TV station SABC2 launched its new brand/advertising campaign across TV, radio, print and outdoor last week, reiterating the channel as the “Station for the Nation”.
SABC2 will be the official South African broadcaster for the Beijing Olympics and the Comrades Marathon in 2008.The campaign launched on Thursday 15 May.
- The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Holdings board chairman Justin Mutasa says advertisers have deserted its broadcasting operations, admitting that poor programming has crippled operations but he blamed the crisis on sacked CEO Henry Muradzikwa, whom he accused of running down operations by not consulting the board and government.
