Sierra Leone: SLPP Radio for Kenema
Regional chairman of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) Saturday disclosed plans to establish the party's radio station in Kenema, which will serve the entire eastern region and beyond. He said the radio station would serve as a control mechanism for its members by informing the populace about the activities of the party and its contributions towards national development.
"We are going to establish the radio in Kenema station because we want to see democracy at play. The people of Bo requested that we establish the radio there but efforts have been made by the people in the eastern region during the presidential and Parliamentary elections in which all SLPP Hon. members of parliament were overwhelmingly elected. We have therefore decided to establish this particular radio in Kenema which I believe is a stronghold of the party," he said.
Sandy said the closure of the party's radio in Freetown was a blessing in disguise as it shows the undemocratic nature of the All Peoples Congress (APC) to the international community. He said the radio would be discussing good and bad. Sandy confirmed that as opposition party, their business is to constructively criticize government and mindfully contribute towards development.
