Super5Media, aka Telkom Media, recently retrenched 28% of its workforce with more jobs in the firing line
Telkom Media was recently rebranded as Super5Media after Shenzhen Media South Africa bought 75 percent of Telkom Media from then controlling shareholder Telkom. Super5Media has a commercial satellite and cable subscription broadcast licence that allows it to operate both a satellite pay-TV service and an IPTV service in South Africa.
Super5Media says on their website that it plans to “provide a commercial pay-TV service to all South Africans for a subscription fee. These services will be available via satellite, dedicated broadband networks (IPTV) and the Web”.
To date the company has not launched any services or given a clear indication as to when consumers can expect a commercial offering from them, but news recently emerged that the new media company is slashing jobs to ‘consolidate its services and maximise its flexibility’. According to one source close to the company 22 of the company’s 78 employees were recently retrenched and more retrenchments are reportedly in the pipeline. MyBroadband tried to contact Super5Media for comment, but no one at the company could be reached by the time of publication.
