- The board of VenFin has resigned to make way for Vodafone appointees after the mobile phone operator took control of the South African investment firm in an agreed takeover. VenFin said 11 directors including Chief Executive Josua Malherbe, Chief Financial Officer Jannie Durand and Chairman Johann Rupert had resigned as part of the deal. Vodafone bought VenFin for access to its 15 percent stake in South African cell phone operator Vodacom. Itsaid last week it had control of 66.6 percent of the investment firm and had extended the closing date for its $2.4 billion offer.Vodafone appointed Johannes Els as chairman of VenFin and Erik de Rijk as CEO.The deal is the second biggest foreign direct investment into post-apartheid South Africa and will increase Vodafone's stake in Vodacom to 50 percent, putting it on an equal footing with South African fixed-line company Telkom.
