VODACOM TO PROVIDE MOBILE DATA SERVICES IN CONGO
Vodacom Congo has awarded a contract to France-based telecoms equipment vendor Alcatel, which will see the deployment of a complete end-to-end GPRS (EDGE-ready) mobile data solution. The operator expects to launch its new mobile data service in Q1 2006, covering the country’s main cities of Kinshasa, Goma, Lubumbashi, Mbuyi Mayi and Matadi. Once complete, Vodacom’s network will have the capacity to provide its 1.5mn users with data services.
This contract marks the continued relationship between Alcatel and Vodacom Congo. The vendor has been the main telecoms solution provider for Vodacom since the operator launched in May 2002, having supplied enhanced radio access and core, intelligent payment, microwave and satellite transmission solutions.
