CONTRACTS: WHO'S SELLING WHAT TO WHO?
- MTN AND HARRIS – ZAMBIA
MTN Zambia has selected Harris Corporation to design, build and install new microwave infrastructure for its national GSM network. Harris TRuepoint radios will be used to construct a new network backbone, metro rings and access links connecting MTN Zambia's national GSM network. The new links will enhance capacity for the cellular links around Zambia's capital city, Lusaka, and one of its largest commercial towns, Kitwe. The 155 mbit backbone will be constructed to allow for upgradeability and doubling of capacity as demands for voice and data services grow. This link will form the first stage of a wider project to interconnect the towns and cities of Zambia.
- SITA AND BELGIUM COMPANY – SOUTH AFRICA
The State IT Agency (SITA) has concluded a memorandum of understanding with a Belgian municipal IT group to jointly provide greater IT support for South African municipalities. Over the next 12 months, SITA and the Belgium-based municipal IT group would upgrade two or three municipalities that urgently need IT support. The project, he explains, will include upgrading and centralising outdated and aging IT infrastructure, as well as modernising and standardising components such as billing systems.
