UGANDAN ISP INFOCOM LAUNCHES WI-MAX BROADBAND SERVICE
Ugandan ISP, Infocom, has launched a broadband Internet wireless service technology in the country to provide higher speed for large companies that want their businesses to perform better, writes Balancing Act’s Uganda correspondent Esther Nakkazi. The delivery of the connectivity is based on WiMax technology following its acquisition of a licenced frequency band obtained from Uganda’s communication industry regulator Uganda Communication Commission (UCC).
“The maximum data capacity of this new wireless technology is surpassing anything existing so far in the country in terms of possible end-user connection speed, claimed Hans U. Haerdtle, the General manager Infocom. He said the speed the technology will offer would be 20 times the average speed on the market, up to 10Mbps compared to 512kbs. Average achievable speeds are believed to be 4 mbps.
