Tanzania: NMB Bank reports 280,000 clients for its mobile banking service
The NMB Bank's year-old mobile banking has attracted more than 280,000 clients.
NMB Bank CEO Ben Christianse told reporters yesterday in Dar es Salaam that the number of customers was expected to increase as the service was accessible in four mobile networks.
It was originally being available on Vodacom and Zain netwoks, but last month, the bank entered into agreements with two other mobile companies -- Tigo and Zantel.
The service started in July 2009 and clients can transfer money, check their bank balances and buying power vouchers.
Marketing and communications head Imani Kajula, since reaching agreements two more mobile networks, nearly 1000 new customers were subscribing to the service daily.
"We had about 270,000 customers by last month, and we had since added other 10,000 customers after adding the two networks," he said.
Christianse noted at the same occasion that plans were underway to add new features to improve the NMB mobile.
