Software Firm Targets East African Markets

SW Global an international technology company is set to compete for a share of East Africa's software applications market by starting operations in the region.

According to Ms Veronica Ssempbewa, General Manager SW Global Uganda, the firm will extend its footprint to Kenya and Rwanda to offer electronic (e)-education, e-health and e-government services to East Africans. "East Africa is still a growing market but it has huge potential. We are trying to establish operations within Uganda and Kenya mostly focusing on the education and healthcare sectors," she said in an interview in Kampala last week.

The firm currently has a strong presence in West Africa but has operations in 16 global markets including; Uganda, Ghana, Nigeria, India and Sri-Lanka. In Nigeria, the company was contracted by the government to implement an internet-based system to enable citizens to process their passports online. It also created a web-based application to enable foreigners to acquire Nigerian visas.
