Airtel Gabon, Unesco launch USD 4 mln schools IT programme

Airtel Gabon has signed a XAF 2.4 billion (approximately USD 4 million) cheque to the 'Former ma generation – Gabon 5000' programme, which is also backed by the education ministry and Unesco, Agence Ecofin reports.

The project will train 5,000 18 to 35 year-olds with introduction to IT, e-learning support, a young entrepreneurs initiative and training grants for selected trades. The first phase will involve the creation of cybercentres with servers and terminals at schools in Libreville, Port Gentil, Oyem, Franceville, Bitam and Lambarene. Airtel solicited Unesco's participation in the youth technology tranining scheme.
