MTN South Africa is planning to invest ZAR1.2 billion (USD89.1 million) in network upgrades in the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) province, the Independent Online reports. As part of its investment programme, the company has commenced the deployment of a fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network – capable of offering downlink speeds of 100Mbps – in the suburb of La Lucia, which will see roughly 500 homes connected to the fibre-optic infrastructure; the first batch of homes are scheduled to be connected to the network by the end of October 2015. Further, the operator has significantly expanded its 4G/LTE coverage in the province, though it stopped short of providing further details.
