Innovative pharmacy app wins pitching competition at NigeriaCom 2015

A pharmacy-focused app that allows store owners to keep an inventory of drugs has won the inaugural edition of the Entrepreneur’s Hub held at the NigeriaCom conference and exhibition.

AGCNigeria’s GenRX help owners of small, medium and large-scale pharmacy stores to keep an inventory of drugs in their store — informing them of those that are about to expire including information on drug-to-drug interactions.

The panel of judges included Google Nigeria’s Chukwuemeka Afigbo, Wole Odetayo, the managing partner of Wennovation Hub, and myself.

AGCNigeria was named the winner of the competition based on the product’s creativity, feasibility, sustainability, and competence of the team members which included a pharmacist, developer, and a business strategist.

The startup is also the only one that is already available in the market with nine paying users. Though the team is seeking funds to move the product from offline to a cloud-based platform.

In his remark, Odetayo enjoined startups to find out the necessary laws that govern the space they are trying to play in, especially in Nigeria and other countries.

Other startups that pitched at the final event included advertising platform Rubiqube which allows publishers and ad viewers to earn every time a video ad is completely watched, Online Agro-Trade and Networking Platform which is an ecommerce platform that also connects individuals seeking agricultural products with farmers that are selling them, and CrowdPenny which is a crowdfunding platform.

By winning the competition, the AGCNigeria team will be travelling to South Africa for AfricaCom where they will be pitching to a continent-wide audience and potential investors. AfricaCom will take place 17 to 19 November in Cape Town, South Africa.
