SimbaPay wins DEMO Africa 2015. Next stop: Silicon Valley

SimbaPay, a leading digital money transfer provider, was on Friday, September 25th, 2015 announced as the winner of the DEMO Africa 2015 event which was held in Lagos.
 
SimbaPay now automatically qualifies for the global DEMO event that will be held in Silicon Valley.
 
At DEMO Africa 2015, SimbaPay showcased a new app that enables the opening of bank accounts in Africa from outside the continent.
 
Nyasinga Onyancha, CEO of SimbaPay, commenting about the win said “We are totally excited and dedicate this win to our customers. It’s because of their continued feedback and support that we were able to develop our new in-app bank account opening service.”
 
Dan Howard, SimbaPay’s VP of Engineering, was also in Lagos, as part of the team that made the winning pitch at DEMO Africa. Howard added that “This win is an awesome reward and inspiration for the endless customer-driven innovations we’re undertaking in the remittances space.”
 
In May 2015, SimbaPay launched free, instant transfers to all Nigerian banks from abroad.
 
In June 2015, the company became the first platform in the world to allow Kenyans living abroad to make M-PESA PayBill payments.
 
The SimbaPay app can be downloaded for free from the Apple and Android app stores.
 
DEMO Africa Selection Process
 
30 of the most innovative start-ups in Africa were launched at DEMO Africa 2015. DEMO Africa 2015 highlighted some of the best new technology innovations from across the continent.
 
The 30 finalists were the top picks from two rigorous screening processes of over 600 applicants. Applicants were judged on their ability to link creativity, innovation and effectiveness. A pan-African panel of judges, comprised of entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and members of academia, performed the final vetting and adjudication of applicants.
