(Ecofin Agency) - In Benin, the post and telecommunication regulatory authority (ARCEP) sanctioned MTN and Glo to pay their users FCFA176,174,848. According to beninwebtv.com which reported the news, this sum is comes as a compensation in the form of credit for the poor quality of their services noticed by regulator in May 2016.

After ARCEP took note of the issue and also of MTN and Glo failure to respect specifications set in their statements of work and to meet mobile network services quality indicators available to the public, the regulator also forbid the operators from providing new added value services or issue new SIM cards. The operators were given until August 2016 to do so.

During the period, a firm picked by ARCEP could check improvement in the quality of service. Once failures are corrected, the sanction will be lifted. If not, more sanctions could follow.
