New ISP Comtal aiming to enter Algerian market

A new ISP, called Comtal, is reportedly aiming to enter the Algerian broadband market, domestic news source Algerie-focus.com reports. The Oran-based company will be majority-owned by fixed line incumbent Algerie Telecom (55%), with other shareholders including oil and gas groups Sonatrach (20%) and Sonelgaz (20%) and railway operator SNTF (5%).

According to sources familiar with the matter, Comtal will offer DSL and WiMAX broadband services, in addition to MVNO offerings. No timeframe for the launch has been set yet.
