Fixed and mobile operator Orange Cote d’Ivoire has awarded a contract to Ekinops for the upgrade of its transmission network to meet the rising demand for data services in the West African country. The telco’s nationwide backbone network will migrate from 10Gbps to 100Gbps capability using the 100G optical solution from France-headquartered vendor Ekinops.

Orange Cote d’Ivoire now includes the operations of fixed line provider Cote d’Ivoire Telecom (CI-Telecom), which was merged into its wireless sister company in December 2016 to create a fully converged fixed and mobile business operating under the Orange brand. The combined entity is 69% owned by Orange Group of France and 31% by the government of Cote d’Ivoire.
