Uganda/Niger: Sports TV Offers Sh1m for Cranes

Sports TV Uganda, a new free-to-air channel, has boosted the national soccer team with sh1m for their 2010 World Cup qualifier against Niger. Bent Andersen and Jacquelyn Kigozi from Sports TV handed over the money to FUFA's technical director Edgar Watson at Mandela Stadium on Friday.

Sports TV plans to broadcast top-quality sports programmes 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Viewers will not need to pay for the Sports TV service. According to Kigozi one can just use their normal terrestrial antennas. Sports TV plans to commence broadcasts in Kampala by July. "The new free television has a vision for promoting local sport and we found it important to contribute towards the success of the Cranes," she stressed.

Cranes started their quest for qualification to the 2010 World Cup and African Cup of Nations finals with Saturday's home tie against Niger. Last year the national soccer team failed to qualify for this year's African Cup of Nations finals after a marathon campaign, which included a 2-1 historic, win against Nigeria.
