Nigeria: Abia Plans Technology Park
Chief Friday Akatobi, the Abia Commissioner for Science and Technology, said today the state would have a technology park next year. He told newsmen in Umuahia that the park became necessary to boost indigenous technology.
Akatobi said Gov. Theodore Orji had approved 50 hectares of land for the park, and that the Ministry of Land and Urban Development had been directed to make it available. Commenting on the abandoned IBB Technology Village in the state, he said the land mass was not sufficient to cater for the design the ministry had in mind. The commissioner announced that engineers had fabricated a car-tracking device that works with telephone handsets.
He said the development of indigenous technology was important to the ministry, adding: "We are currently identifying talents and skills in all fields of human endeavours". NAN
