Namibia: DSTV Terminates SABC Africa
SABC, will no longer broadcast the SABC Africa Channel on the DStv service, as from August 1, 2008. Operation of the SABC Africa channel is no longer viable and MultiChoice and the SABC have agreed that the channel be withdrawn from the DStv bouquet.
A statement issued by the MultiChoice office in Windhoek stated that MultiChoice is currently in negotiations with the SABC on an alternative channel and content agreements and once these are concluded, the information will be communicated with DStv subscribers.
The South African Press Agency (Sapa) quoted SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago as saying that SABC and MultiChoice had entered into negotiations to continue the service, but that the process did not yield results, thus the discontinuation of the SABC Africa channel on DStv.
The SABC spokesperson however noted that when the channels become digital, SABC Africa might be broadcast again and its staff would remain on to help the channel prepare for the digital migration.
