SABC pushes ahead on 24-hour news channel
The SABC News International, a 24-hour news channel, is available in several countries but the SABC plan is to make it available worldwide. So far daily 12-hour broadcast deals have been signed with US broadcaster MHZ and with Mauritius.
Deals are expected be signed shortly with Mozambique, Uganda and Tanzania. SABC also reports that it has received interest from India and China. According to Ravi Goshalia, responsible for marketing the channel in Africa and internationally, the aim is to go global.
Currently in South Africa, SABC News International is only available on SABC2’s late night slot and on Sentech’s Vivid platform which has had limited buy-in.
