IPTV World Forum Middle East & Africa - Jumeirah Beach Hotel - Dubai - Informa Telecoms & Media Conferences

Established as the world's leading event on IPTV, this is a must-attend conference and exhibition in he diaries of all Telco, TV and content executives. IPTV has evolved and telcos pursuing a television strategy across Middle East & Africa can launch with more sophisticated television services than witnessed during early-adopter deployments in Europe and North America, with more personalisation and cross-platform, multi-screen delivery among the obvious targets. Regional telcos have the chance to demonstrate their ambition to win, and not just play, in the Pay TV marketplace.

IPTV providers can make their mark on the Middle East & Africa Pay TV industry providing they differentiate themselves and deliver on the promise of better TV. On Day Two we consider the importance of content, how it is delivered and then consumed - assessing the potential for multi-screen and connected home as strategies for differentiation. The conference also reviews the lessons from important deployments.

Internships in SA

Cape Town TV provides internships for those who have done a video production course with an accredited training provider or who have aquired video skills through work experience. The channel has partnership agreements with several tertiary educational institutions to place video production and journalist interns.

Internships generally last anything from two to six months. Interns are placed in production positions in our studio, outside broadcast and field production crews.

Interns will be channeled into three programme category areas, these being talk shows, magazine and sports programming. Producers and directors can work on developing their ability to come up with popular programme proposals - which if accepted, the channel will help to source finance for an ongoing CTV show.

The channel is developing an internship programme that will be run by a full-time Training Manager. Interns and volunteers will be able to join an outcomes-based mentorship programme that will enable them to gain recognition for their work experience gained on CTV productions.

CTV employs skilled professionals from the video industry to develop both interns and emerging film makers who wish to develop their programme ideas for the channel.

Mentor producers, directors and production personnel sourced from the industry to work on a part-time basis with interns in order to transfer skills and knowledge. Training seminars are given by mentors and guest lecturers/trainers on a regular basis.

Waterfront Studios supports local filmmakers with South Africa’s most competitive Indy Film Packages

At the end of May 2009, Waterfront Studios launched new packages aimed at supporting local productions. The Studios, one of the most technologically advanced and the biggest creative post-production team in South Africa, recognized that stimulating local productions is critical to the development of a sustainable film industry in South Africa. In partnership with leading rental companies and suppliers, Waterfront Studios has developed lens-to-finish packages aimed at productions with budgets under R3-million. These packages cover both digital and film-based processes, allowing filmmakers the choice of medium through which to capture their stories. Together with their partners, Waterfront Studios aims to support Indy filmmakers who make a critical contribution to our industry.

The 16mm package includes: the camera kit with lenses, accessories and monitoring, 10,000ft per week Kodak 16mm stock, processing and telecine rushes, offline edit facilities, HD/2K online conform and full uncompressed DI grade, stereo and 5.1 surround audio mix, digital mastering, master tape and hard drive.

The Red One package includes: the camera kit with lenses, accessories and monitoring, on-set DIT and data management, all media transcoding, offline edit facilities, HD/2K online conform and full uncompressed DI grade, stereo and 5.1 surround audio mix, digital mastering, master tape and hard drive.

Terms and conditions do apply, and the packages can be tailored to some extent to satisfy the requirements of different projects.

The main advantage of these all-in-one packages, apart from the massive cost savings, is the continuity in technical knowledge and support, provided from the first day of the shoot to the last day of the grade. This minimizes the risks on set and ensures a hassle-free post experience.
