West African TV channels from Ghana and Benin now available on satellite
Two TV channels – one Beninois and the other Ghanaian – announced satellite distribution deals last week.
French triple play oiperator “Free” has added ORTB to its African TV pack
In addition to the seven new TV channels announced at the end of July 2009, Freebox TV has also included ORTB (l’Office de Radiodiffusion et de Télévision du Bénin), the public television station of Benin on its 251 channel. The contract was signed with Thema, distributor of TV offer « Le Bouquet Africain » in France. ORTB has been added without any extra charge as part of the basic African pack priced at €6,99 per month. Free, owned by “Groupe Illiad” also provide very low-cost telecoms prices to call from France to African countries.
There are currently two new African offers available, the «Bouquet Africain» and the «Bouquet Africain Premium». These two bouquets have been very successful in the French market, especially among the African diaspora. They include channels from seven countries: Cameroun, Senegal, Mali, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Congo (Brazzaville) and now Benin.
Ghana's favourite television station, TV3, can now be viewed in all 53 African countries and Europe. The station has acquired C-band satellite capacity to broadcast its programme to the whole of Africa and Europe. While TV3 will continue to run terrestrial broadcasting with the satellite network, it will migrate its programme to digital before too long.
