Mediapeers rolls out in Africa

Technology & Convergence

As a Pure B2B service company for sellers and buyers of audiovisual content, mediapeers (spelled with a small "m") has decided to market its popular platform to the African market. Balancing Act’s Sylvain Béletre interviewed its Business Development Manager Thomas Dreiseitel to find out more.

Thomas Dreiseitel, Business Development manager at mediapeers explained: "The purpose of our platform is to make media professionnals' life a lot easier.mediapeers operates the mediapeers exchange (MPX), an international online marketplace for movies, documentaries, short form and other video formats as well as a suite of web based software services.

Our platform simplifies market access for content owners and helps buyers to discover exciting content. It significantly reduces transaction cost and dramatically simplifies cooperation between content owners and professional buyers."

Dr. Holger Hendel, one of the founders of the company and currently the Managing Director further explained: "We have registered buyers and sellers from over 70 countries around the World: Americas, Europe, Asia and Oceania. The next region for us is Africa. At the end of last year, somebody said to me: Africa is an attractive market, but very few outside of Africa take care of it. You should promote your solution in Africa. The idea now is to enter this market. It makes a lot of sense for African industry players to use our solution: travelling to and from Africa is expensive, and we save on travel costs and video transportation.

Professionals on the African continent usually lack cash flow to enable them to attend the big content shows and to visit contacts in order to buy or sell productions. We would like to help quality productions from Nollywood and other African productions get out of Africa. We also want to support local TV stations and other types of broadcasters with new exciting content, which could come from Africa or elsewhere."

Dr. Hendel later adds: "For content buyers and sellers, registration is free of charge. They just need to register properly so that we can be sure that they are real professionals. Our role is then to help content owners and distributors as well as sellers work together."

If you are a producer or distributor - broadcasters, independent producers, studios, and archives, mediapeers helps you distribute your content on a global scale to the fast expanding market for digital content via a secure online platform. The MPX offers a web interface to support content owners to mange their content and store all related media files. They have complete control over offered licenses and terms, and can close transactions with a mouse click.

As a content buyers, e.g., cable and mobile operators as well as TV channels, mediapeers helps to source exciting programs from a multitude of sources in one place. Professional buyers can easily preview content, acquire licenses for their specific needs and incorporate the acquired content seamlessly into their digital platform. The MPX liberates buyers from costly handling of screeners and broadcast tapes, cumbersome billing runs with a multitude of suppliers as well as the paper work.

mediapeers' business model is based on sell-side commissions on the license fees generated via the highly secured platform. There are no fixed costs for sellers or buyers.

mediapeers' solution has already attracted 42,000 programs in only 12 months from 470+ sellers and more than 330 active buyers.
