- "Harragas," the latest film by Algerian director Merzak Allouache, is running in the official competition of the 29th International Film Festival of Amiens (North of France) which opens this month.

- "Algerian cinema has the particularity of being a thematic cinema, which offered some productions that enable it to earn a world-wide reputation and win several awards," the Algerian film-director Ahmed Rachedi said on Wednesday in Cairo. In a statement to APS after the tribute paid to him at the 33rd Cairo International Film Festival, Rachedi pointed out that the Algerian cinema is mainly based on thematic productions and not on the cult of the star, called the "Star-system" as it is the case in the Arab and developed countries’ cinema.
