A joint meeting of experts was held from 23 to 25 March 2010 in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), at the initiative of Commissions African Union (AUC) and the European Union (UEC), on the theme "Media and Development". The meeting brought together fifty high-quality media participants from Africa and Europe.

Among the major recommendations made at the meeting is the upcoming launch of a Pan African Media Portal, which will provide a unique database in the field.

A Reflection Group, composed of fifteen representatives of institutional organisations and media will propose in the near future specifications for building the Portal.

Participants also established a pan-African network of media to complement the action of the Portal. This network will provide a new platform dedicated to sharing and dialogue on issues related to the theme "Media and Development" in Africa.

This tool will be open to researchers and professionals working in the media sector.

The Addis Ababa meeting was held after that of Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) in September 2008, which had highlighted among its findings the project of establishing a Pan African Media Portal.
