Broadcast In Brief
- New South African Pay-TV operator ODM will make a soft launch of its services at the beginning of April.
- Based in Paris and run by Eritrean exile journalists, Radio Erena has been operating for the past nine months. Broadcasting by satellite to Eritreans in Eritrea and on the Internet to the Eritrean diaspora, the station serves as an independent news source for a country where press freedom is non-existent and anyone straying from the official line is severely punished. This original project is supported by Reporters Without Borders. Watch the Radio Erena presentation video (http://www.rsf.org/Radio-Erena-an-independent-news.html)
- Intel is considering running commercials during coverage of the 2010 World Cup soccer tournament, to be played in South Africa from June 11 to July 11. This is part of Intel advert campaign which joins the most notable trends on Madison Avenue, NYC so far this year: the embrace of so-called big event television by advertisers, which are seeking to run commercials during the live coverage of major programs like the Grammys, the Super Bowl, the Winter Olympics and the Academy Awards.
