Kenya: KDN Now Second Premier League Sponsor
ICT infrastructure firm Kenya Data Networks has signed a Sh13.5 million sponsorship deal with SuperSport to secure rights as the broadcast partner for the 2010 Kenyan Premier League season.
This is the second time the firm is getting involved with the top-flight league after the signing of a Ksh20 million three-year deal with Premiership club Mathare United early last month.
KDN chief executive officer Kai Wulff said the move was an important element of his company's support for Kenyan football. "We have noted that the Kenyan [premier] league has a large following, which creates an important link between our brand and clientele," Wulff said.
The two years the pay TV channel has been beaming live KPL matches from stadiums across the country has helped improve the standards of the local game and showcased Kenyan football talent across the continent.
Clubs in this year's KPL have attracted significant corporate sponsorships after cement manufacturing giant Blue Triangle opened the floodgates with a Sh12 million package in favour of Sofapaka, which was followed by the Mathare United deal.
