- Pay-TV licensee Super 5 Media has been granted another extension by the Independent Communications Authority of SA (Icasa) to launch a service. Icasa spokesman Paseka Maleka says the regulator has granted the company another six months to get a service off the ground.
- Uganda: The Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, deplored the death of Paul Kuggundu, correspondent of Top Radio and several TV stations in Uganda, on 10 September in the southern town of Rakai. The journalist was killed by an angry crowd during a demonstration. On 10 September, Mr Kuggundu was covering a protest by dozens of motorcyclists following the murder the previous day of a fellow motorcyclist. The protesters attacked the home of a suspect then turned on Mr Kuggundu when they saw him filming them. He was beaten unconscious and died on his way to hospital.
- SABC owes musicians R28m. The department of Trade and Industry is to set up a commission of inquiry into problems linked to the collection of royalties in the music industry.
