Call for donations: Ster-Kinekor invests in children’s Vision

On 3 November, cinema chain Ster-Kinekor’s Vision Mission in partnership with Pareto Limited handed over free prescription spectacles to 80 disadvantaged children at Tygervalley Mall, Cape Town.

The children, all from the Parrow/Bellville community, were treated to a morning’s entertainment, including a movie, which was a first for them. They were previously screened by ophthalmic nurses and optometrists with their prescription glasses then sent the lab for completion for the handover on Wednesday by SAMA nominated singer/songwriter Chad Saaiman.

In the past 12 months Ster-Kinekor Vision Mission has screened over 95 000 learners and successfully provided eye care for over 2000 of them. It is currently estimated that, of the 3 million learners in Grade 1, 2 and 3, one tenth have eye  problems which, if left uncorrected, could lead to severe vision impairment in adulthood.  The majority of these conditions are correctable but many children, especially those from underprivileged areas, have no access to affordable treatment

The sponsors of Ster-Kinekor Vision Mission at TygerValley Mall were Pareto Limited, PnP with the mascots Oros & Simba making an appearance.

Funds for the Vision Mission initiative are raised jointly through Ster-Kinekor Theatres, its customers and the general public - who can make donations as small as R2.50 when booking movie tickets either through the Self-Service Terminals in Ster-Kinekor Cinemas nationwide or the company’s website
