A film crew made up of three Senegalese and two French citizens were on Febuary 19, 2011 arrested and detained for three days by Gendarmerie in Ziguinchor, a town in the Cassamance region of Senegal.
In Uganda, Nickson Bbale, a reporter of Channel 44, a local TV station, was being assaulted on the job by a rowdy gang on Feb. 23, 2011 as he filmed the chaos at Kakeeka Polling Station in Rubaga, a Kampala suburb and sustained a deep cut to the head. Two female reporters were also beaten by another gang. These were Jane Anyango of UBC TV and Florence Nabukeera of Bukedde. Many others were attacked.
Reporters Without Borders condemned a wave of government censorship in the past few days at Radio-Télévision Nationale de Guinée Équatoriale (RTVGE), a state-owned broadcaster that is kept under very close surveillance by information minister Jeronimo Osa Osa.
