- Middle Eastern broadcaster MBC Group is to launch a raft of high definition channels across the Middle East and North Africa.

- On 22 October 2011, at about 8.00 p.m. local time, Alhaji Zakariya Isa, a cameraman with the federal government-owned Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), was killed by three gunmen, suspected to be members of the radical Islamic sect locally known as Boko Haram, at his residence in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital in north-eastern Nigeria.

- Expanding on its one local transmitter, located on Tygerberg, Cape Town's community television channel, CTV, has started streaming worldwide through the internet, extending its reach from line-of-sight viewers to the world.
