Regulation & Policy

- In South Africa, pay-TV broadcasters MultiChoice, owner of DStv, and On Digital Media (ODM), which owns TopTV, have signalled their intention to fight a proposal by the National Consumer Commission that could force them to offer consumers the ability to choose only channels they want to subscribe to.

- In Egypt, the ‘Egypt State Information Service’ (Cairo) revealed that Major General Ismael Etman, a member of the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), Monday 24/10/2011 denied that the army interfered or censored the media. Etman also denied that SCAF forces its viewpoints on the media; though he went on to add that the ruling military only ask the media ensure that their news coverage and shows "respect the national interest."
