MipTV 2012: Côte Ouest brings unique TV programmes’ catalogue to broadcasters

Côte Ouest Audiovisuel, the leading distributor of audiovisual rights for and from Africa, will exhibit for the first time at MipTV, bringing with it a unique catalogue of TV programmes including prestigious soap operas and telenovelas, major US and African feature films, TV series, movies made for TV and animations for the young audience.

The telenovela is the most-watched genre of television programme in the world and in Africa; telenovelas have crossed borders to be shown on an increasing number of Francophone TV channels, including some in France. The stories developed in these soap operas are truly universal and often able to incorporate socio-cultural messages within the storylines. Côte Ouest is the exclusive distributor of Globo TV's productions for the whole of Africa and other French-speaking markets and as such offers a wide variety of telenovelas dubbed into French and English with a very high quality standard.

Côte Ouest distributes the largest library of over 500 hours of African series and of over 1400 hours of African films available in French. The distributor’s unique catalogue brings together top productions from across the whole of Africa and from famous filmmakers (Youssef Chahine, Idrissa Ouedraogo, Ousmane Sembene and many others). The catalogue is unique in African cinema including over 300 films and documentaries, from the most successful (Petanqui, Tilaï, In the Name of Christ, who all won awards at FESPACO and at European festivals) to the latest releases.

Côte Ouest also gives access to prestigious series and miniseries coming out of South Africa. Through its exclusive partnership with M-NET, Côte Ouest is linking South Africa to the French speaking territories of Africa by dubbing into French ground-breaking series like Jacob's Cross, The Wild, Inkaba and many more. Côte Ouest also distributes dubbed versions of successful series such as Land of Thirst or When We Were Black for instance.

In sports rights and for the first time, Côte Ouest gives all broadcasters in sub-Saharan Africa the opportunity to acquire the broadcasting rights of one of football's most impressive and spectacular championships in the world, the Brasileirão, the national championship played by top clubs in Brazil.

Bernard Azria, CEO of Côte Ouest, said: “Africa is home to a billion people and a huge and growing market for the audiovisual sector. We are the pioneer and the main player in selling TV programmes to Africa. Our presence at MIP will be a not-to-miss opportunity for audiovisual professionals globally to connect with Africa and to discover the richest catalogue of high quality telenovelas dubbed into French.”

Over at Mip TV 2012, Côte Ouest invites journalists, producers, TV broadcasters and distributors to join its team at booth 08.08.

Leading TV content provider in Africa, ‘Côte Ouest Audiovisuel’ is an independent company with offices in Abidjan (Ivory Coast), in Ebene City (Mauritius) and in Casablanca (Morocco) to effectively serve its customers across the entire continent. The company was created in 1997 by Mr. Bernard Azria who used his long and successful experience in advertising when creating this new company in the region. Côte Ouest distributes an annual average of over 20,000 hours of programmes to nearly 75 television stations spread across 42 markets.

Although Côte Ouest first focused its activity on providing content to French speaking broadcasters, the company was able to develop a catalogue aimed at English speaking Africa, with over 7,000 hours of exclusive programming which will be available at MIPTV.

Côte Ouest has sealed exclusive agreements with M-Net in South Africa, Globo TV in Brazil, Majors and independent producers in the USA and many other producers worldwide, thus securing the distribution of thousands of hours of the best drama to its numerous clients. Its most recent agreement with Disney to distribute some of their most prestigious feature films and series (in English or dubbed into French) across Africa gives African broadcasters a unique opportunity to access many of the best family entertainment programmes in the world.
