SES and Samsung set up a free Satellite TV set
The sector of television receivers just recorded a new technological advance. An ongoing collaboration between SES, the world leader in satellite services and the South Korean giant Samsung has led to the development of a LED TV equipped with a satellite receiving terminal giving access to FTA channels.
The information was revealed on 23 March 2012 in Cape Town, South Africa, on the occasion of ‘Samsung Africa Forum’.
This new technology will accelerate digital broadcasting by satellite in sub-Saharan Africa, and will encourage more African channels to launch air channels in the region.
Called ‘Samsung LED TV Free Satellite’, the new TV set will begin shipping in August 2012 in Côte d'Ivoire, Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Congo and Cameroon. This first deployment will later be extended to other countries.
