- On 30 October 2012, sports events and broadcast agency TV Media Sport (TVMS) has been appointed to distribute the TV, marketing and media rights for the 2013 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships across Africa. According to an official press release, TVMS agreed a deal with IEC in Sports to distribute the rights to the World Championships in Moscow, in addition to other events organised by the IAAF, across 48 territories throughout sub-Saharan Africa.

- Afrikaans pay-TV broadcaster kykNET launched a new breakfast show called Dagbreek at The Westcliff Hotel in Johannesburg on Monday 22 October. Dagbreek will go on air on 5 November and will broadcast live every weekday between 06h00 and 08h00.

- On October 17, 2012, one year after its launch on DStv in Africa, Studio Universal and Universal Channel have launched in HD on the platform. Universal Channel’s audience has grown consistently year on year, for the past three years, increasing 60% in January to September 2012 versus 2010. Studio Universal and Universal Channel reach 51 countries across Africa on MultiChoice’s digital pay-TV satellite platform DStv.

- Reaffirming its commitment to the filmmaking industry, Canon Middle East, recently announced its support for young, aspiring filmmakers in Africa by backing the 'Youth Film Makers' organisation, an NGO registered in Kenya.
