Asad, shot on the west coast of Cape Town and featuring Somali refugees living in the South African city, has received an Oscar nomination in the Best Short Film category.


Modern fairytale Fanie Fouries's Lobola hits the big screen in March 2013: What happens when an Afrikaans guy and a Zulu girl fall in love and have to navigate their way through the complicated process of lobola? It's a recipe for disaster explored in 'Fanie Fourie's Lobola', a contemporary romantic comedy about love and tradition in a rapidly evolving society set for release in March next year.

The documentary by Spier Films/Zimmedia Production 'Robert Mugabe… What Happened?' has been selected in competition at the largest and oldest Panafrican Film & Television Festival in the World – the 23rd “Festival Panafricain du Cinema et de la Television de Ouagadougou” (FESPACO), Burkina Faso.

Little One, a film directed by Darrell Roodt and produced by Anton Ernst, was selected by the South African Academy Award Selection committee and the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) for consideration as South Africa's official entry for best foreign film at this years Academy Awards. While it has unfortunately not made the short list it is still a great achievement to be considered for the Oscars by South Africa.

An multimedia exhibition entitled "Libya in transition: help build a new and democratic Libya," opens Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, to shed light on the UN support to Libya in transition.
