‘People of the South’: a film on national identity and key achievers

In South Africa, Dali Tambo’s legendary People of the South returns to SABC3 on Sunday 19 May at 20:30 with 13 brand new episodes featuring leading personalities across multiple disciplines - from politics to the performing arts.

In a major coup People of the South has secured President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe together with First Lady Grace Mugabe as guests of the show.  Other featured interviews include ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe and Kwazulu Natal Premier Zweli Mkhize. Dali also speaks to the multi-award winning R&B singer Danny K as well as the established South African actress, voice-over artist, creator and director Sylvaine Strike. Professor Ntshengedzeni Nevhutanda, pastor of the Higher Grace Church in Pretoria and chair of the National Lotteries Board will also be featured on the show.

“People of the South is packed with entertainment, emotion and living heritage.  Laugh and cry with our guests as we tell the stories of their lives,” said Dali Tambo as he describes the show’s contribution to our heritage as a nation.

Dali’s sensitive yet probing interviews present the people behind the people. The episodes culminate in a celebratory dinner - where Dali encourages reminiscing, good humour, and a great sense of occasion.

“People of the South aims to create a strong sense of national identity and evokes a sense of pride in our exceptional achievers,” said SABC3 Marketing Manager Risuna Mayimele.  “As a channel, we are very excited about the programme, our viewers will enjoy Dali Tambo’s legendary interview style with such a comprehensive guest list.”
