Broadcast - In Brief
- The Africa Channel broadcasts ‘African Masters’, a documentary series showing behind the scene’s visits to African artists’ remarkable studios. Contemporary African artists show their art in this exclusive and visually stunning series of six episodes showing on Tuesdays at 9pm, starting 4th June 2013. Sequences from the channel are also available on YouTube.
- South African free-to-air commercial channel e.tv is significantly increasing its local drama output by commissioning 52 episodes of eKasi: Our Stores, the popular Monday night drama series, effectively making it a movie of the week slot. In addition, Mzansi Love returns for a second season with 13 episodes, while the soapie Scandal! will increase from four days a week to five days as from 5 July.
- Township TV, a unique social responsibility project of well-known media personality Graeme Joffe, appears to be ending. Township TV has 22 big screen TV’s in Townships across SA and has provided free DStv entertainment to the people 365 days of the year, since 2007. The project has assisted in getting kids off the street, created endless job opportunities and assisted with education.
But a sad reality is that DStv has not renewed its 15 month title sponsorship and without any financial support, Township TV can no longer sustain its mission.
