Sierra Leone: SLBC Partners With China's Star Times

The Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) on Friday signed an agreement with Star Communications Network Technology (Star Times) to pave the way for a joint partnership venture in ensuring that the SLBC is digitalized.

According to Star Times' Vice President, Charles Liu, the partnership will also enable every household in the country to watch and enjoy digital TV and get a better life. He expressed delight at the signing of the agreement as they have been on it for the past one year to get the SLBC go digital in its operations.

"From now on, we will closely work with the country's independent national broadcaster to ensure that the partnership is successfully implemented," he assured.

In his statement, SLBC's acting Chairman - Board of Trustees, Festus Minah, described the day as historic and memorable for the institution to partner with Star Times.

"SLBC is safe and we will guaranty what will benefit the country. On June 17, 2015, the institution will move from analogue to digital broadcasting," he said. "We are delighted to have been able to sign this all important agreement with Star Times from China."

Also making a statement, the institution's Director General, Elvis Gbanabom Hallowell, expressed his delight on behalf his staff for the agreement.

He explained that the authorized business scope of the company shall include the establishment of a digital TV signal distribution and mobile multimedia distribution networks, exercise digital TV basic service, multimedia service and digital pay TV service, among others.
