Nigeria: African Movie Channel launched

On 11 August 2013, the official Nigeria launch of Africa Movie Channel (AMC) took place at the Grand Ballroom of the Oriental Hotel, Lekki, Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria. The global channel is dedicated to the best movies and series from Nigeria's Nollywood, and the best from the rest of Africa.

AMC started operations in 2006, when it launched Europe's first channel dedicated to top quality Nollywood and other African movies, and also pioneered the online digital distribution of Nollywood movies and drama series at full-screen DVD quality a year later through its online On-Demand channel, and a partnership with British Telecom (BT) on its BT Vision Download Store.

The 24/7 African movies and series linear channel dedicated to showing only the best quality movies and series primarily from Nollywood, was launched in May 2011, with AMC's technical partners, Advanced Broadcast Services (ABS) in London providing a fully managed playout service of the channel; ABS are one of the largest playout and TV facilities companies in Europe.
