Samsung Video Hub for TVs in SA
The video on-demand service for Samsung TVs has received a South African launch date.
Samsung Electronics South Africa announced in a press statement on Friday, 20 September 2013, that its video on-demand application will launch on new Samsung TVs at the end of September 2013.
Previously, Samsung Video Hub was available on Samsung smartphones and tablets.
To access Video Hub, you need a 2013-model Samsung Smart TV and at least a 4Mbps internet connection, Samsung said.
Rental prices start from as little as R10.00, whilst purchase prices start from R29.00, depending on the studio and the age of the title.
Samsung noted that the above rental pricing excludes any data charges that might apply to stream the movies.
“Video Hub will enable our customers to either rent or purchase the latest Hollywood blockbuster directly to their Samsung Smart TV at the same time that the movie is released on DVD,” Lance Berger, head of product marketing TV/AV at Samsung SA is quoted as saying.
According to Samsung, Video Hub lets users access the video rentals for a period of 30 days from purchase date, with 48 hours to view it once the movie has begun to play.
If you decide to buy the movie, it then remains permanently accessible on the same Samsung Video Hub account used to buy the movie, and can be watched as many times as you wish, Samsung said.
