- Global Eagle Entertainment, the media investment vehicle set up by industry veterans Harry Sloan and Jeff Sagansky, has acquired in-flight entertainment business IFE Services. The deal sees Global take control of IFE’s parent company, Travel Entertainment Group Equity, from GCP Capital Partners for approximately US$36m. UK-based IFE services provides content services to over 50 airline and cruise ship operators and has a strong customer presence in growing airlines in developing markets including Africa, Asia and South America.
- The film "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom" cost just over R350 million to make, film-maker Anant Singh said recently. British actors Idris Elba and Naomi Harris are in South Africa to promote their film. The two portray former president Nelson Mandela and his former wife Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.
