- Senegal: The president of Future media Group Youssou Ndour has announced his ambition to enter the country’s mobile market by securing the fourth available mobile licence, according to Agence Ecofin. Senegal’s former minister of culture declared that his company will be in position to acquire the licence, emphasising the importance of according the permit to a national operator. Senegal currently hosts three mobile operators, Orange Senegal (formerly Sonatel), Expresso (owned by Sudatel), and Tigo.

- Vivendi will move one step closer to its goal of becoming a leaner content and media-focused company, by spinning off various telecom assets, including Maroc Telecom and SFR. The latter will be spun off via an IPO, for which Vivendi has hired Citi and Societe Generale as advisers, with an anticipated deadline of Q2 2014 set. Vivendi also recently increased its stake in satellite TV group Canal+ from Groupe Lagardère for E1.02bn (US$1.41bn).
