Marvel’s latest box office blockbuster, ‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’, is reportedly being shot in parts of Johannesburg and Gauteng. The film, which follows a team of super heroes, will also be shooting in the UK, northern Italy and South Korea.

It is a sequel to director Joss Whedon’s megahit ‘The Avengers’ and is set for release in 2015. Although action photography sequences will be shot throughout the city, no principle cast members like Scarlett Johansson or Chris Hemsworth will be around. The production is scheduled for mid-February and will last for two weeks.

In a statement for Channel 24, Gauteng Film Commission CEO Phindle Mbainujwa said, “We're thrilled that Marvel Studios is bringing a major motion picture project to Johannesburg…We're showing them the very best our region has to offer.”

Johannesburg Mayor Parks Tau said echoed the sentiment saying, “We are excited to host Marvel...It strengthens Johannesburg’s position as a worldwide film production centre with first-class facilities.
