Symposium on the regulation of satellite audiovisual communication

Regulation & Policy

An international symposium took place on "the regulation of audiovisual communication via satellite and new means of distribution."

The event was held in Abidjan on 10 and 11 June 2014, at the initiative of the High Authority of Audiovisual Communication (la Haute autorité de la communication audiovisuelle – HACA in French) in Côte d'Ivoire.

Africa paid a visit to Abidjan in order to anticipate the regulation, given the rapidly changing trends and audiovisual communication services, boosted by technological progress.

The conference brought together the regulatory institutions of the 33 countries members of the Network of African regulators communication (Réseau des instances africaines de régulation de la communication - Riarc).

On the list of international organizations was the Economic Community of West African States (Communauté économique des Etats de l'Afrique de l'Ouest - Cedeao), the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (la Communauté économique et monétaire de l'Afrique centrale-CEMAC), the SADC from Southern Africa, the Economic and Monetary Union of West Africa ( l'Union économique et monétaire ouest-africaine-UEMOA), the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the African Telecommunication Union (ATU), the African Regional Satellite Communications Organisation (Rascom 1) and the Network of regulation Mediterranean (le Réseau des institutions de régulation méditerranéennes-MNRA).
